How We Feel vs Daylio

Two ways to notice a mood. One starts with a word for the feeling. The other starts with what you were doing.

A word for the feeling

How We Feel is a nonprofit check-in built around emotional vocabulary. Its site describes the app as free. A feeling record is not therapy, and a free app is not a crisis service.

A mood tied to the day

Daylio asks for a mood and the activities around it. Notes are optional. The developer describes a free tier and a paid Premium tier. On 27 October 2026 the public site did not state the current Premium price, and a help page we requested was blocked.

How We Feel

Short mood check-ins and emotional vocabulary.

Keep in mind: Mood tracking is distinct from professional therapy.

Daylio

Mood and activity tracking with optional premium functions.

Keep in mind: Check export, backup and paywall details for the platform you use.

Check what you can take with you.

Export and backup were not re-checked for either app on 27 October 2026. A tracker you cannot leave is a different commitment from a tracker you can copy out, so confirm that path in the app you keep.

There is no universal winner.

Start with How We Feel if you want language for a feeling. Start with Daylio if you want a fast log of mood plus context. A chart can show that two things happened together. It does not show that one caused the other.

Try the same small task

Make one entry in each app for the same part of the day. In How We Feel, see whether the feeling words match what you would have said. In Daylio, see whether the activity tags explain the mood without a long note. The entry you will actually repeat is the useful one.

Neither product should be treated as emergency care or as a substitute for professional treatment. Conversational tools, including ILTY, are a different kind of reflection and are not interchangeable with these check-ins.
